...or, more correctly, thirty-three very loud cheers for each one of the brave Chilean miners who were lifted this week in the rescue capsule Phoenix 2 from what might have been their tomb two thousand feet beneath the Atacama desert. And a single additional deafening cheer for everyone, from President Pinera to the humblest helper, who contributed to this extraordinary, unprecedented rescue operation. For the nation of Chile this achievement confirmed the restoraion of its international pride after a reforming election and survival from a major earthquake.
