Street drinking: “Make it illegal!”

Dear Sir, AS if to prove Charles Dickens right when he wrote: “the law is an ass..an idiot”, Palma's town hall has stated that it is “unable to take any legislative measures to prevent this practice (el botellon, drinking in the streets).” It has however, the power to sanction those that cause litter in the streets but cannot specifically prevent youngsters meeting in the street to drink. I suggest that even Sancho Pansa's burro (donkey) could work it out - make it illegal! After all, Calvia council had no problem passing a similar law. In the meantime, pick a good few up for causing litter and heavily fine them on the spot: the word will soon get round that it's a lot more expensive to drink in the public street than in bars and on terraces!
