PERHAPS it may be this unseasonably good weather but I do feel that there are reasons to feel upbeat about Majorcan tourism at the moment. The issue of winter tourism was seriously discussed at the World Travel Market tourism fair in London this week. Tour firms, the Balearic government, the Spanish government and the airlines have agreed to discuss the possibility of increasing winter tourism to the island. I am told that our recent forums on facebook in which winter tourism and the issue of Magalluf attracted a wide range of views and comments was also discussed at the World Travel Market. I think everyone agrees on Majorca that this island could easily become a very nice winter tourism destination it just needs some thought and imagination. It appears that we are moving in the right direction on this issue and let us remember that one British tour firm will start operating to the island for hikers and cyclists in February. Obviously, Magalluf was a major talking point at the World Travel Market and this led to the agreement between all interested parties to launch a major crackdown. The Melia hotel chain has also announced plans to upgrade many of its hotels and also build a giant leisure centre in Magalluf. It is all positive news. All we need now is some great winter weather and some promotion. Majorca appears to be heading in the right direction but everyone needs to work together and get tourism back on track.
Upbeat Majorca
