Christmas times

FOR the last few months we have been campaigning for more winter tourists and we appear to be heading in the right direction. But I think it could be a case of two-way traffic. I would say that the number of British expatrates who now go back to Britain for Christmas has reached almost record levels. Everyone I meet keeps on telling me that they “will be away for Christmas” and Isuspect that the few flights to Britain at the moment are doing a brisk trade. Now, it is quite normal. If you have friends and family in Britain you want to see them over the festive period. One person even told me that she was going back to Britain because there was little Christmas spirit on Majorca and this winter was exceptionally quiet on the island. Now, I have probably celebrated Christmas on Majorca for about three quarters of my life and Icouldn´t really think of a better place for the festive celebrations. You can have the best of both world;better weather (for sure!) and the Christmas traditions of your own country. Christmas on Majorca is good fun. But perhaps I am in a minority. I was told that the reason why many expatriate festive events taking place in November is because there is a mass exodus of people in December. So perhaps next Christmas we should launch a double campaign. The first for more winter tourists and the second to persuade expatriates to stay on the island over Christmas! Sometimes you simply can´t win at all!
