Tesco customers are being supplied with ‘new season’ Majorcan loose potatoes for an exclusive 6 week period.
The Majorcan potatoes, supplied by Branston, the UK’s largest packer and supplier of potatoes, are specially selected Maris Peer and Lady Christl varieties, which are harvested with a fluffy skin for a fresh, delicate taste.
Grown in the sunny climate of Majorca, the crop is being brought to consumers as part of Tesco’s seasonal new loose strategy – to meet customer demand to source and supply fluffy skinned loose potatoes all year round. This year’s new season Majorcan crop will be the latest in the new loose potato portfolio, sourced by Branston.
Andy Blackett, Tesco Senior Buying Manager comments: “We’re determined to source the best new potato crop available from around the world to ensure our customers continually get the best of the crop.
“Great tasting, fluffy skinned loose potatoes are an excellent way to attract customers into stores. Since Tesco implemented the seasonal loose strategy just over a year ago we have seen a complete reinvigoration in loose potato sales and have attracted over 40% more customers.
“We are constantly looking for new and innovative ways to make loose potatoes and loose produce attractive to our customers, and we see this as a big opportunity which we as a business are in full support of.”
Majorcan loose potatoes are priced at £1.65 per kg, and are available to take home in Majorcan branded, brown paper bags.
