All-inclusives
Dear Sir,
Here we go again, the perennial question rears its head once more. This time a Socialist group (Sat, 26  April) regurgitated the argument that thousands of bars and restaurants’ workers have lost jobs as the bars close, for whom I have a great deal of sympathy. But, as I have reiterated in these columns over the years, the fact is, no amount of ‘crackdowns’ as you proclaimed, will alter the status quo. The hoteliers themselves have been waging a ferocious campaign to prevent property owners from letting houses and apartments, a move doomed to fail, because of its sheer weakness of logic and fairness.
And, have the anti inclusive protesters thought of the undoubted loss to the Balearics if these holiday-makers simply go to the many destinations that offer such amenities? Yes, the law of ‘unintended consequences’ comes into force, that would lead to further unemployment for hotel staff and possibly closure of hotels’.
No, let the law of supply and demand rule. It’s the only way.
