Dear Sir,
I have been a regular visitor to Majorca for over 40 years and I read the Bulletin daily via the internet.
Not only have I read about the debacle regarding car hire, I have also experienced it first hand.
Because of this for the last 4/5 years we have been using a company,  always using their premium service “speedy Hoppa”, until this year without any problems whatsoever.
However this year we have found the service to be second rate! We have recommended this service to several friends who, unfortunately have had their flight delayed.
On arrival at Palma they have been told that they have missed their bus and will have to use the normal service (normally a lot cheaper and a lot longer in time to resort). So another “rip-off” for the tourist!

Car hire insurance
Dear Sir,
Mr. Green is right in his assertion that one car hire company attempts to extort money for the extra insurance. Fellow property owners and I have used the airport car hire companies for 10 years with no problems, but over the past few years we have been similarly bullied into taking this excess insurance but we have always politely rejected their offer.
The solution is simple. Take out an annual excess insurance in the UK from a reputable, English speaking company for £29 PER YEAR. A lot less than the £100 PER TRIP requested by the car hire company.
My only recommendation is that you should NEVER say that you have this excess insurance as I am convinced your computer record is marked and allows this company to “carefully inspect” the hired car with a view to charging you for the “extra damage”.
Bear in mind that the extra excess insurance is for things which no one who hires a car should ever encounter, like lost keys, undercarriage damage, tyre damage.
For the RECORD I am obviously unable to name the car hire company concerned.
