Dear Sir,
Sunday’s MDB Viewpoint had quite rightly three cheers for Aung San Suu Kyi now de facto PM of Myanmar (Burma) but also by inference for her assassinated father Aung San. Contrary to the write-up he did not just fight for Burmese independence since the end of Japanese occupation but for long before. During most of the war he fought on their side as their Burmese Minister of War against the Allies. He thereby aided the Japanese who were responsible for the death of close to 13,000 POWs alone on the construction of the infamous Burma Death Railway of Bridge over the River Kwai fame.

Only months before the Japanese surrender, with the writing clearly on the wall, did he change sides and later was offered a similar position as Inspector General of the Burmese Army this time under the British occupation. That’s politics I suppose.
