Sir,
I am first and foremost a Yorkshireman, secondly I’m English but my heart is in Spain. I am very disappointed to find that Spain does not allow dual nationality and following BREXIT (perhaps the most stupid decision ever taken by the U.K. electorate) I will no longer be part of the European community of people’s. Please can you start a campaign to get Spain to enable those Brits who live and work here to obtain Spanish passports and thus remain European citizens. If we could apply for and obtain Spanish passports alongside our U.K. passports it would enable us to travel freely, support Spain and show our belief in the European Union. This benefit would only be for those living, working or owning property in Spain prior to the BREXIT vote. If each country of the EU offered similar benefits to their British citizens it would pressure the U.K. to offer similar benefits to the European citizens living in the U.K. At the same time perhaps the 70 hard BREXIT MPs along with those funding the Leave campaign could be banned from EU countries for good.
Yours David Nichols

David,I voted to join what was supposed to be a trading block only in 1973 but voted to leave the thing that it had morphed into, which NONE of us voted for, which was the best thing that UK voters have ever done,if you feel so strongly about it,you do not need duel nationality, just take out Spanish nationality, simple as that.
The premise of the petition is flawed because the situation of the fictitious Sanchéz family described by the petition scenario is inaccurate in that there are indeed Spanish-British families who have lived in the UK for decades yet still have family ties & half a life in Spain who are also stuck in Brexit limbo and who do not have the right to dual nationality. Such a proposal would therefore only work if all those who currently already have the right of Spanish Nationality 'by option,' such as grand-children of Persons of Spanish Origin born and living abroad or wives (& widows) of Persons of Spanish Origin are also granted the right to dual nationality. I certainly couldn't support the petition unless it also included the rights of such families of emigrants who are also trapped by Brexit and not protected by the Law of Historical Memory.

Why not get Spanish Nationality ? You dont need dual nationality to remain in Spain or Majorca then. Also as the UK referendum was a legitimate vote, the exit people won. I havent seen anyone wanting to go to court over the tory party winning the general election. So why all the fuss over another vote !! Amazing how many British people reside in foreign lands but still want to make decisions for those of us who dont have the means to reside abroad.
