Isn’t it best to try and keep a safe distance from them?

Dear Sir,

In your Viewpoint (Is NATO partly to blame? Majorca Daily Bulletin, Thursday March 10) you have expressed an opinion that few other commentators have dared to voice.

Some years ago NATO made a strategic mistake by promising Ukraine eventual membership of the Alliance. Should they not have recognised this mistake in recent months? Losing face would have been preferable to the devastation and loss of life that this unfortunate nation is now faced with.

If you live next door to violent and crazy neighbours isn’t it best to try and keep a safe distance from them?

I agree with Georg Tunnel. Why do we need Ukraine in NATO? We would be far better off having a good relationship with Russia than with Ukraine. Ukraine is a country with very low economic, global significance. I kindof get Russia is somewhat pissed off about that. Duhhh. Now thousands and thousands will be killed,.as the West has been so stupid to say Ukraine will join NATO. Ok, by all means blame the agressor Putin, but also take a good look into the mirror. We as the West are certainly not clean in all this.
