For more info on any of our stars featured here, you can contact Erica directly on erica@elcrewco.com. Today I’m speaking with Gavin Dymock, originally from the UK, he’s been based in Mallorca for almost 9 years. He owns Balearic Coating Solutions.

What attracted you to the island? What do you like about living here?

I came to the island to work a season in Magalluf, attracted by the lively atmosphere and the opportunity to experience something new. Shortly after arriving, I met my now girlfriend and never went back.

What's the hardest thing about living in Mallorca?

The most challenging aspect revolves around being on an island. This luxury does come with its set of difficulties, primarily in terms of the cost of living.

What does your business do?

Our business specialises in sandblasting and powder coating services. In the sandblasting aspect, we excel in removing old dirt and paint, bringing surfaces back to their bare metal state. This technique proves invaluable in various industries, including the marine, construction, and automotive sectors. On the other hand, our powder coating services offer a unique approach to painting. Utilising powdered pigments, we apply a coating that, when cured in the oven, results in a flawless and durable finish (similar to enamel).

What's your USP, what makes you better than your competitors?

We are the sole powder coating company in Mallorca that handles all aspects of work in-house. As the owner, I personally oversee every stage of the process – from powder coating to quoting, invoicing, and more. This ensures the quality of the work is perfect every time. What sets us apart is not just our hands-on approach but also our dedication to clear and constant communication. I believe in being there for our clients every step of the way.

Any achievements or special things stick out?

In 2019, a significant turning point occurred when my then-boss, Justin Jones, and I were involved in a serious car crash. The unfortunate incident resulted in Justin having to step away, and at that moment, I made the decision to take over and continue his legacy. It was a challenging and unexpected situation, but I saw it as an opportunity to carry on building upon the accomplishments he had achieved up to that point. This experience not only tested my resilience but also marked a defining moment in my professional journey, showcasing my commitment to overcoming obstacles and ensuring the continuation of the work we had started together.

What's the best thing about your job?

I thrive on strong connections with clients, and this aligns perfectly with my strength in effective communication. We prioritise responding promptly to inquiries and follow up on every aspect, ensuring our clients feel heard and supported. I firmly believe that maintaining open and transparent communication is always the key to successful partnerships.

What would you like to do next?

I would like to become S.L and expand to employ four staff members. The goal is to establish a steady and constant flow of work, supported by an effective social media and a user-friendly website for order processing. While I have ambitions for growth, I also value maintaining a manageable sized business that keeps us both small and busy.

If you could have any yacht in the world for a day, which one would you pick?

I would pass that incredible experience to someone else and simply enjoy being onboard. The joy of giving and sharing such an opportunity is just as fulfilling as experiencing it firsthand.

What do you like to do when you’re not working?

I love spending quality time with my girlfriend and our dog, seeing family and catching up with friends. Whenever possible, I also love to travel, explore new places and create lasting memories.

What advice would you give to anyone looking to establish a yacht related business in Mallorca?
Be familiar with the market, be aware of all the legal and regulatory requirements, build strong connections within the industry and plan your finances well.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

Five years from now I hope to step back a bit from the hands on daily operation to more of an overseeing role. My goal is to manage and guide the business.
