There appeared to be just one talking point in Spain yesterday...the aborted transfer of Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea from Manchester United to Real Madrid. I find it quite amazing that two of the biggest clubs in the world with plenty of experience in signing international players managed to get the paperwork in a muddle and missed the deadline. It is an outrageous state of affairs really and has left De Gea furious. Now, in Spain everyone appears to be blaming Manchester United but it takes two to tango! Both clubs are now desperately trying to resolve the situation but it appears too late. De Gea is obviously not happy at Manchester United, in fact his girlfriend was quite scathing about the north of England city. For Manchester United it is a blow to their reputation and of course manager Louis van Gaal, who is already under pressure for failing in the transfer window. But there will be no smiles at Madrid either. Madrid needed De Gea as a replacement for Iker Casillas, their World Cup winning goalkeeper who departed the club at the end of the season. Fans are already furious at the way he was treated by Real Madrid and now De Gea (for now). Barcelona fans appeared to be laughing all the way to the Nou Camp yesterday as a result of this new setback for their arch-rival. And Barcelona fans were quick to tell you yesterday that van Gaal (their former coach) is not the greatest manager in the world. What a mess!
