There was a rumour circulating tomorrow's “El Clasico” between Real Madrid and Barcelona could be cancelled because of security fears. Now, obviously there is heightened security across Europe following the attacks in Paris last week but every time a major event is cancelled it is a victory for the terrorists. If there is credible intelligence that an attack is being planned then any event should be cancelled at once. But at the same time we need to stand tall and not allow the terrorists to disrupt our day-to-day lives. This is what they want. “El Clasico” is the biggest event in Spain. A ring of steel will be in place for the game which I am confident will go ahead. Supporters will be body searched up to three times before they can take their seat. This is certainly a sign of the times and big sporting events have been cancelled. The friendly match between Belgium and Spain was cancelled and so was the Germany v. Holland friendly on the same night. Thankfully, the Wembley match between England and France went ahead and it broadcast a message across the world. I think everyone was moved by supporters singing the French national anthem. We face months of more security but at the same time we simply must “Keep Calm and Carry On.” The terror attacks in Paris have brought Europe together and if we stay united I believe that we can get through these difficult times.
Carry on
