The new Magalluf

It will probably sound rather outrageous but I believe that Magalluf will soon be the jewel in the crown of the Majorcan tourist industry. For years the local authorities tried to avoid mentioning Magalluf because of its "awful reputation." But times are changing and 500 million euros are being invested in the resort, adding upgraded hotels and new leisure facilities. Private investment is leading the way backed by the local authorities. The additional funding and new attractions are already making Magalluf a better holiday destination, and now the Balearic government and the Calvia council are calling on other businesses to follow the lead which has been set by the major hotels chains. Obviously this major transformation in Magalluf is not going to happen overnight but it will happen, especially with the multi-million euro investment. What I think is fantastic about the Magalluf project is how the tourist industry has come together to work for the common good of the resort. The local authorities have also worked long and hard. So, Magalluf has gone from zero to hero in the space of two years. The business community in the area will tell you that something had to be done about Magalluf sooner rather than later because things were getting out of hand. It is fantastic that a resort which was one of the pioneers of package tourism will soon take its rightful place again as one of Majorca’s best holiday destination. Who would have thought that 24 months ago?
