Majorca is lucky because it is visited by tourists from across Europe. Just take Calvia: you have the British in Palmanova and Magalluf (and the Italians in August), the Germans in Paguera, the Irish in Santa Ponsa, the list goes on and of course the Spanish. This summer the European soccer championships are taking place, so Calvia will be the "united nations brought together by football ..." Rather sadly and to some extent embarrassingly, extra policing has been ordered every time England play. And only England. England supporters still have the reputation of being the bad boys of European football and fans will be greeted by extra police. Calvia council are pondering a special police plan every time Roy Hodgson leads his players out in the Championships. So England fans can't be trusted. I know for a fact that local police chiefs sometimes pray for an early England exit because it means that they have additional resources. The behaviour of England fans is far better now than it was 10 years ago but they still can't be trusted. The England v. Wales match could be especially problematic for local police because supporters will be staying in the same hotels. It is such a shame. Calvia could become a great place to watch the European Championships as a result of all the fans of different nationalities. It appears that it could be the England fans who could ruin the party. What a shame.
