Are there just too many tourists this year? This is a question which some people have been asking. Thankfully, it is only a small number of people who have obviously forgotten that without tourism this island is nothing; and remember that it is a very long and cold winter. On some given days, when the Port of Palma is packed with cruise ships, the city centre does feel rather overcrowded. But no-one in their right mind who lives in Majorca would ever say that we have too many tourists. It must be remembered that the majority of businesses survive during the winter on the money they have made during the summer. If there are more tourists, then they will have an easier winter period.

Mallorca used to have plenty of winter tourists. But they go elsewhere now. Plenty of reasons why and none are being addressed.
I loved coming to Mallorca in late November and December but sadly that was over ten years ago! Scotland has No flights to Mallorca in the winter season yet everyone of my friends who own property in Mallorca would love to visit during the winter seadon- Ryan Air - Easy Jet are too busy with Ski resort flights!Anywhere in Mallorca would be an ideal Long weekend destination! I loved walking around Palma in December enjoying the beautiful buildings which you can't do in summer due to the number of tourists who are too busy - Tourists would come to Mallorca in the winter - UK visitors are always asking for direct flights but Nobody listens too them. The Mallorcan government are missing a huge chunk of the winter tourists who would love to come to Mallorca not just Palma but all the beautiful places we appreciate in the summer months are still beautiful in the winter months! I would need to pat over the odds for flights - two flights each way
It's a pity the man in charge doesn't agree that tourists are needed on this island. He should be on his knees thanking every one of them for coming. Instead he wants to put in more controls to limit them. As you know winter tourism will always be a niche market concentrating on Palma city breaks. We just don't have the temperatures they fortunately have on the southern costas. We will never have the success Benidorm or Malaga has. Ryan Air announced cuts today, so maybe the longed for winter flights will take a bashing - let's hope not - as the slots were well fought for. But of course the señor has plans to move summer tourists over to winter. I expect he can even walk on water and be our saviour (!) We'll see.
