I can't really understand why there is a continued decline in the number of British residents in the Balearics. As you will have read on the front page today the number of British residents on Minorca has dropped by 50 per cent in the last five years. The number of British residents on Majorca has also seen a fall. So is the British love affair with the Balearics in decline?

All Inclusive has sent many of my friends bankrupt. The tourist is no longer a friend to those who are now rich from tourism.. British pensions are worth a lot less, and they can no longer afford to live here. Rents are increasing, but incomes are falling. Local rents, apartment rents, mortgages etc. are on the increase every year. Brexit is causing confusion, many are returning because of its uncertaintity.
Even more British residents leave mainland Spain.
"World trade deals will be massive". Oh, don't you just love it! We already have massive trade details with the world's largest trading bloc. It's called the EU. Dream on...
People are realising that the UK will thrive post leaving the EU, when world trade deals will be massive, thrusting the UK economy into huge highs and living standards will be worth staying in the UK for.
Why? Because the days of living under the radar are disappearing.
As you say. It's probably a combination of exchange rate, but for me, more to do with accomodation rental. It's getting difficult to get much of anything decent to rent in the Southwest and Palma, the main concentrations of UK citizens, for much under 1000 Euros these days. There is not much left out of a basic salary at the end of the month after that. being broke is no fun, even if the sun is shining.
Fed up with remoaners?
It's the £/€ exchange rate, pure and simple.
In recent years I have seen a general unwelcoming attitude from majorcans towards all foreigners. I think it's probably a global issue rather than a personal attack on the British, given the cost of living everywhere nowadays. But here prices have rocketed in the last few years. When the euro was introduced in 2002 the £ was fixed at 66 pence. Look at it now!! Also the majorcans want to protect their jobs, their health service etc. from what they may call 'sponging' foreigners. Look at the comments re the Rumanian beggars in Palma. Neither do the British want to put up with the nationalism prevalent here, nor the 'tourist go home' attitude from those groups trying to wreck tourism. And of course the quality of education is the worst in the whole of Spain. Why would a family with children want to put up with that?
People are leaving because they cannot survive anymore.
