The Balearic government has launched a campaign in Britain underlining the loyalty to these islands of British holidaymakers. One of the supplements which we produced last week clearly states this fact with interview with four generations of the same family who have been coming here on holiday.

British loyalty however will barely compensate for the considerable drop in the German market here. A hotelier told me that if it wasn't for the Brits they'd be in trouble because the Germans are going elsewhere in big numbers. Eggs and baskets guys. If the Brits don't show up, then what? Plan b?
Loyalty costs more than changing as staying with the same insurance company or energy supplier has shown. The Spanish mainland where you only pay tourist tax for the first seven days and the Canaries where there is no tourist tax at all is better value for money than the Balearics. Normally we visit Majorca twice a year but now only come once and visit another Spanish destination once. Hotels of a similar standard are generally cheaper and the tourist tax definitely is. If you expect loyalty these areas need to be looked at.
