The Barbados government is considering giving people the chance to relocate to the tropical island’s sparkling beaches and work from there remotely for up to a year. If you changed the word Barbados to Majorca it would certainly give you some food for thought and it is not a bad idea for the island as it battles to secure some revenue in these hard times.

Stephen, the cosy relationship is with the hoteliers who have always resisted any accommodation that does not involve their hotels. Ever wondered why there are no camp sites in the Baleares ?
The Majorcan government needs to reverse the ban on private villa and apartment rentals as it is this sector only that brings in visitors who also spend in car hire and restaurants etc not the cheap skate all inclusive tourists. Is the government in Majorca brain dead not to realise this or is there some cosy relationship with the all inclusive tour operators?
Great article and subject Jason. It is time to think outside the box and find a wider base of income for the Balearics, to be less vulnerable if things like this corona crisis happens. Business can do a lot, but it would also take politicians with vision, who are willing to make daring choices...... But that I am afraid, is the same as trying to find a dodo in Iceland.
Might have to beef up the broadband. I pay Movistar for fibre optics and 600mbs in S'Arraco but get very patchy levels of download speed and lucky to get 55mbs.
