We’ve grown accustomed over recent years to some unusual local politicians, but they have tended not to inhabit the established parties, such as the Partido Popular. Eric Jareño, the PP mayor of Llucmajor, isn’t unusual in an eccentric manner. In fact, he is perfectly usual in that he appears to be totally normal and completely sane. No, it’s just that Eric, apart from having been a male model, is quite young to be a mayor. Born in 1989, he will still well recall how things were when he was in his late teens.
The joke of the study trip and the tides of Arenal and Alcudia

@tranq, Aside from continental Europeans dominating mallorca tourism today, not much has changed with young Brit behaviours since then. It's the reason for the new drinking and public nudity restrictions. And why so much more marketing money is being spent on the continent. Quality over quantity.
I owned a disco in Arenal in the 80's. We started early each year with the spanish students. We would go through to 5 or 6 in the morning with no trouble, no problems, except profit. Not unusual to see a table with one large coke and 5 straws. Then after Easter the Brits started coming and so did the problems. Fights, drunks, vomiting, smashed doors and furniture, all the normal things. Back then the spanish students were examples of how things should be.
Students?? Really?? In Alcúdia we’ve had the door kicked in and antique windows smashed - more than once. Vandalism? Letting off steam? They’re just thugs.
