“Is now the right time for local hoteliers to increase their prices?” | E.C.

Hotel and holiday apartment owners have increased their prices as they gamble that this year will be the season of recovery and things will return to normal after two years of the pandemic. In fact, there appears to be few cheap holiday deals available for this Easter on Majorca. Demand is said to be good but the price rises are a gamble because it could all go horribly wrong.

That's great for Soller. But I doubt they were struggling before Brits finally decided to start booking again. Much of the island has been booked since last October, so choices are more limited now. The cheap stuff is gone, which might explain the outcry about prices from the latecomers.
Morgan it’s great news that tourism booking figures are solid on the island. It’s good to here that. The soller area I have contact with are busy May and June that’s certain. The complete normalisation of the usual island offering is the priority so business as usual return. Believe me the demand from U.K. middle upper earners to spend accrued earnings is there.
Few here are actually in the tourism business, which might explain the obliviousness to the rising cost of everything, including the taxation and/or various "fees" levied on tourist accommodation of all types. At every turn, somebody has their hand out taking money just because you're in tourism in one way or another. It's become a favourite sport of local ajuntamentos and anyone servicing the tourist industry (including the booking platforms, which grow increasingly greedy with every year). Having said that, it sure doesn't seem to be slowing tourism much. Bookings have been fast and furious since last year. Never seen it like this before.
These are the same people who keep telling us that a small tourist tax will stop tourists coming but think that raising their prices by hundreds of euros won't! Of course the only reason they don't like the tourist tax is that it's not going in their pockets! They're economically illiterate!
