Message from the Mayor of Calvia to Bulletin readers

“Be ambassadors of one of the best places in the world”

As mayor of Calvia, and on behalf of the town hall government team, I would like to send Christmas wishes to the readers of the Majorca Daily Bulletin and the Mallorca Bulletin.

Ours is a cosmopolitan and welcoming municipality in which we are honoured to live with the many British citizens who enrich and contribute so much to our society, a society of which they are firmly a part.

With Saint Patrick’s Day having been held in Calvia for a long time, uniting us with citizens of Irish origin, so in 2024 we will also celebrate Saint George in honour and recognition of “our” English people, both residents and tourists. The municipality is what it is today largely thanks to you.

We end a year in which we have set ambitious goals, objectives that will materialise in 2024 and in the years to come. And we are ambitious because the citizens of Calvia deserve no less. We are concerned about the problem of access to housing, we want our children to stay in the municipality and, like us, to be able to develop their life projects in Calvia. For this reason, we are promoting the Housing Institute and we will be committed to the construction of officially protected housing (VPO) to which residents, both Spanish and those of foreign origin, will have preferential access.

We will continue working on the path of safe, environmentally sustainable leisure tourism that extends the season. We have demonstrated this with the boost we have given to foreign promotion and events, as was seen at the recent World Travel Market in London. With the support of local commerce and businesses, Calvia must once again be the municipality at the forefront of European tourism, a reference point for the western Mediterranean.

And in the face of those who question our main economic engine, we guarantee - without a doubt - that it is possible and beneficial for society to reconcile tourism, society and the environment. Safety, good environmental practices and tourism promotion are being demonstrated every day with actions.

I encourage you to feel proud of Calvia and to live and work in our municipality, to be ambassadors of one of the best places in the world. I hope 2024 brings you all the best. It is an honour to have you. You are most welcome, part of the family.
