The best images of Maundy Thursday in Palma
The most eagerly awaited procession of Holy Week in Mallorca began this afternoon at 7pm to the cry of "¡viva el Cristo de la Sangre!" (Long live the Christ of the Blood!)
Contrary to the mainland, where Good Friday is most celebrated, in Palma Maundy Thursday is the most popular. The 33 brotherhoods of the city parade along the streets of Oms, Sant Miquel, Plaça Major, Colom, Cort and Palau Reial, stopping at La Seu and returning to the starting point. This brings the procession back to its 19th century route.
