Divers to keep beaches clean this summer

Ciutadella Council has reached an agreement with the organisation Amics de la Mar (Friends of the Sea) and the yacht club so that a team of local divers can be set up to help keep the beaches and, more importantly, the sea bed clean during the summer. The campaign will cost around 300'000 pesetas and will target the beaches at Cala en Blanes, Cala en Forcat and Cales Piques, Sa Platja Gran, Cala Blanca and the stretch of coast between Sa Caleta and Santandría. The clean-up operations will be carried out in six stages between March 26 and September 17. he council has also agreed to cover the costs of purchasing extra air tanks for the divers.
