The authorities in Ibiza want to change the island's image, but they are going to have it tough this year. One of the biggest grossing movies at the UK box offices at the moment is Kevin & Perry Go Large, a comedy starring Harry Enfield and Kathy Burke which reaches its climax on Ibiza where Kevin hopes to make his two dreams become reality. The Essex teenager's two prime aims in life are to lose his virginity and become a top DJ - so he heads to Ibiza. The first looks as impossible as ever. But the second might come true if he can persuade his mum and dad to pay for a trip to Ibiza. With Perry in tow, Kevin heads off to the island... unfortunately, so do his folks. Together they have the adventure of a lifetime, with a little help from arrogant mixmaster Paul (Rhys Ifans who starred alongside Hugh Grant in Notting Hill). The film is enjoying a similar success to that of Four Weddings and A Funeral and The Full Monty but the authorities in Ibiza are none impressed as the movie projects the image of the island as an “easy sex paradise,” as one British film critic remarked, a reputation the local council and Balearic government are trying to shake off while catering for a different quality of tourists. The Ibiza scenes were filmed on the island last summer and hundreds of local extras were involved, along with a host of locations, many of which were nightclubs and bars. The soundtrack to the film is also proving a huge success.
