A set of emergency measures to help ease the water crisis has been drawn up and the Balearic Environment Minister wants the crisis plan to be approved by the government as quickly as possible. Environment Minister Margalida Rosselló explained yesterday after the second meeting of the special water commission, that she wants the emergency plan passed soon, so swift action can be taken this summer in the event of drought worsening and that there will be no more speculation about the water crisis and what to do. The director general for water resources, Antoni Rodríguez, admitted that he has spent enough time speculating and wants to be able to take immediate and effective action to ease situations which are especially tough in periods of drought. Despite efforts made to try and assess water consumption in different parts of the island and in different communities, Rodríguez said it has proved extremely difficult to gain an accurate idea.
