Actor, director, novelist and UNICEF goodwill ambassador Peter Ustinov arrived in Palma last night ahead of tonight's annual presentation of the Grupo Serra's Siurells awards ceremony at the Casino. Ustinov, who has been a regular visitor to the island for the past 40 years is thrilled about being awarded a silver Siurell by newspaper Ultma Hora the sister publication of the Bulletin. While he admits that cinema has changed a great deal during his long cinematic career, both behind and in front of the camera, so too has his beloved island of Majorca. As a keen sailor, he used to keep his sailing yacht based in the Port of Andratx, Ustinov has seen the coastline change dramatically over the past 40 years and now prefers to head inland. Last year's top Siurells were awarded to Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas, who owns an estate here and a cultural centre, and the former Real Mallorca football coach, who rewrote the club's history books and took the side to the final of the Cup Winners' Cup.
