EIGHTEEN year old Helen Lindes Griffith owes a lot to her mum. It was she who gave her the necessary confidence to enter a beauty contest. Later her mother encouraged her to enter the Miss Spain competition and earlier this year Helen was crowned Miss España. But Helen is no ordinary Miss Spain as her name suggests. Her mother is English and her father Spanish and she lives in the Canary Islands. Helen says that her life has changed dramatically since she became Miss Spain. I can't go out without being recognised but it is also a great opportunity. Yesterday the 18-year-old was at the Porto Pi shopping centre presenting a new range of jewellery. She has recently embarked on a new career in television and is in the process of making a series for Tele Cinco. As is quite natural she is making the most of her reign. She has engagements across the country. Yesterday was her first visit to Majorca although she will be returning shortly to play a role in the Copa del Rey sailing regatta. As soon as she arrived at the Porto Pi shopping centre she was mobbed by autograph hunters, mostly young girls.
