Last year Majorca's two main reservoirs were just 23.20 percent full, but yesterday Cuber and Gorg Blau were holding just 8.36 percent as the situation gets seriously worse and close to the point of no return for the island's main natural water deposits. This year the amount of rainfall is 47 percent less than usual and while water is still being pumped from the reservoirs, under the intense heat of the past few weeks, water is now evaporating. The continuing drought in the Balearics is going to have long term effects on the natural water resources; the serious lack of water in the reservoirs can never be fully recuperated and many of the wells across Majorca are now running dangerously dry.
