The Balearic government is to approach central government in a bid to secure some 31'000 million pesetas of European Union funding to help finance a set of urban waste treatment, sewage treatment and water regeneration programmes in a bid to try and resolve the waste problems in the Balearics and set up a system of waste treatment plants which will be able to handle increasing levels of waste in the future. The proposal was passed yesterday in view of the fact that central government has only managed to secure a little over 2'000 million pesetas of EU money, on a load system, for four projects in the Balearics over the next year.
