A total of 300 spectators attended the opening session of the first Balearic-City of Alcudia short film festival, which is being held in the new auditorium, the organisation said yesterday. The opening session was compered by Majorcan actor Pep Tosar. It was attended by the Balearic minister of culture, Damia Pons; the head of the Catalan government's film and video department Antoni Kirchner; the Mayor of Alcudia, Miquel Ferrer; film directors Rosa Vergés, Agustí Villaronga and the director of the TV programme Versión Española, Santiago Tabernero. Seven films made on the Peninsula were shown at the second session last night. They were En Malas Compañias by Antonio Hens, Historia de Detectives by Joaquin Domínguez Nuñez, Bofetada by Aron Benchetrit, Mujeres en un Tren by Jorge Torreegrossa, Back Room by Guillem Morales, 7337 by Sergio G Sanchez and La Luz que me Ilumina by Emilio McGregor. They are competing for a half million peseta prize. The members of the jury are Santiago Tabernero, producer Concha Diaz, Maria Astruc, Alfonso Santiago, the director of Mondo Sonor, and Rosa Vergées.
