The Bulletin yesterday presented a cheque for 100 pounds from a generous reader to Elizabeth Whitehead and Barbra Mayhew of the Centro Canino. The Bulletin reader was so moved by the announcement that the Centro would have to find a new home or risk closure that she sent the cheque for the fighting fund which has been set-up to find new premises. “We can't thank people enough for their kind support. We desperately need funds because we can no longer stay at our present site because the whole area is being levelled to make way for a park,” said Mrs. Whitehead. They need to raise many millions of pesetas. Their campaign is already well underway and so far they have raised 500'000 pesetas. The Bay Entertainers, who are performing Dick Whittington at the auditorium at the moment, are auctioning a toy cat every night and at the opening performance they raised 20'000 pesetas. All the funds which have been collected through the auction will be presented to John Noakes of Blue Peter fame after the performance tomorrow (Sunday) night. Mrs. Whitehead said that they were planning other fund raising activities at the moment which could include a gala dinner. John Noakes is just the latest celebrity to give support to the appeal. Other VIP fundraisers include Selina Scott, the former Sky, BBC and ITN TV presenter.
