Politicians yesterday tried to smooth over the differences between the government and the Majorcan Unionist party over the new commercial law with the government admitting there is a little problem with the leader of the Insular Council of Majorca, but that both parties are eager to solve the dispute. Insular Council of Majorca and Majorca Unionist party leader Maria Antonia Munar, wants legislative powers over the moratorium over superstores, a power the government does not want to give up, but the government is confident of Munar's support when the white paper is put before parliament. The little problem has been seen by many as another internal crisis for the coalition, but the government believes the new commercial law for the Balearics, which conflicts with the new national commercial law which has been drawn up to create a freer market, will be approved.
