Lottery fever is gripping the Balearics again with the first big draw of the year, El Niño, drawing near and ticket holders are hoping that they will have similar luck to the winners of 250 million pesetas in Establiments on Tuesday.Palma winners enjoyed a share of the El Gordo lottery winnings and now another part of Palma has walked away with some lottery millions. The winning tickets were sold by Emilio Molina García, whose lottery outlet is in the centre of the Palma suburb. Each of the winners won five million pesetas, which will have come in handy after the festive expenditure and help towards the Three Kings presents. In the Balearics over 1'800 million pesetas has been spent on coupons for the El Niño lottery and historically, the Balearics has been lucky with El Niño. Started in 1908, El Niño was first won in Majorca in 1932 and then again in 1946, then again four years later. El Niño last landed in the Balearics in 1992 and prior to that, the last time the lottery was won in the Balearics was in 1953. The last major lottery win was in 1992 when first prize of the El Gordo Christmas draw was won in Coll den Rebassa.
