The Balearic ministry of the environment has promised to speed up plans for saving water at Sa Costera, which is currently lost at sea, and piping it to Palma. However, before it can start expropriating the land needed it must have an approved technical plan. Yesterday, Jaume Matas, the central environment minister and former head of the Balearic government, said that he was waiting for the local government's reply to his protocol on plans for water resources. This protocol was submitted last December. A spokesman for the local ministry, however, said that the protocol was delivered in Madrid by two director generals last month and Matas should have read it by now.
