For a large number of Britons heading to their local travel agent this month to book their summer break, there is a good chance that the programmes on television will have influenced their decisions, according to The Association of British Travel Agents. Viewers over the festive season, relaxed and relieved from the pressures of work and Christmas preparations were spirited away to some pretty tempting destinations. The epic film, Empire of the Sun, took them back to the imperial magnificence of China, whilst Ryan's Daughter highlighted the more gentle charms of the Irish countryside and Channel 4*s Sword of Honour will have reminded people about the versatility of Majorca. The BBC1 day-time series Passport to the Sun, which started on January 1, will be subliminally bombarding some two million viewers a day with glorious sunshine scenes of Majorca.
