Tomorrow, Calvia' first mobile home show opens at the exhibition ground in Santa Ponsa as part of the local council's efforts to decentralise the summer tourist season and develop a more diverse all-year-round tourist industry. The event is being organised, in co-operation with Calvia council, by one of Europe's leading caravan holidaying companies. The initiative is being promoted by one of the most eco-friendly councils in Europe, which has been awarded a number of international prizes for reaching a balance between sustainable management of the tourist industry and the protection of the environment. One of the island's biggest problems is traffic and the high rate of road accidents, with the government trying to reduce the number of vehicles on the roads. According to Calvia council there will be around 60 caravans and mobile homes on show and that 130 people, the majority of whom will be from France, will be taking part in the three-day event which closes on Sunday.
