Tour firms and travel agents were left fearing the worst last night as it appeared that the foot and mouth controls would remain in place at Palma airport over the Easter period. There was further bad news yesterday with the announcement that Dutch tourists will also have to be disinfected, as part of the crackdown on foot and mouth disease. British residents hoping for an influx of British goods before Easter could be sadly disappointed with importers of British goods having to withstand an extra week of controls. Some businesses have been looking to Holland as an alternative import market for certain goods, but now Dutch imports are banned. For the airport it means extra loads of waste being carried to Son Reus for incineration and extra police may have to be taken on, to deal with the increase in traffi
