The relative peace on Majorca's roads this Easter holiday, was shattered yesterday afternoon when seven people were injured, one seriously, in a car crash along the Campos to Felanitx road. According to traffic police, the head-on collision involving a Peugeot 205 and a Volkswagen Polo happened at 2pm, just as the Polo was coming out of an exit near the restaurant Son Colom, a kilometre away from Felanitx. Some of the victims were in their seventies and were trapped in the wreckage. A fleet of ambulances and the Guardia Civil were at the scene within minutes and firemen battled to cut the trapped free from the mangled vehicles. A 75-year-old, identified as Jaime RD, suffered the most serious injuries and was rushed to Manacor Hospital while three others, all aged over 70, were taken to local clinics suffering from head and back injuries and various fractures. A 49-year-old woman, Juana TR, was taken to Son Dureta hospital in Palma. Traffic police said last night that the exact cause of the crash has yet to be confirmed, but crash investigators were at the scene all yesterday afternoon and will return this morning.
