Drivers travelling along the Cas Capita-Pla road near Son Bonet aerodrome at 2pm yesterday, received the shock of their lives when a light plane apparently lost control on landing, overshot the runway, crashed through the safety netting and came to rest on the hard shoulder. The light plane, based in Madrid, was operating on a flight from Palma's Son San Joan airport to the Son Bonet airfield in Marratxi and it appears that the flight had been a smooth one until it came in to land at the aerodrome. As it landed, the light plane apparently came off the runway, careered through the safety netting and across the road, fortunately at a time when there were no cars in the immediate area. The plane came to rest in a field and the Guardia Civil were on the scene within minutes. The road was immediately closed off and was not re-opened to traffic for two hours while the wreckage of the plane was lifted on to the back of a lorry and removed. On board the plane had been the two crew and two passengers and miraculously, none of the four were injured in the drama.
