The Palma city council is considering making it obligatory for bars and cafeterias open in the day time to install the same decibel meters which are obligatory for those open at night. This was announced yesterday by Maria Crespo, who was explaining the campaign which the council has organised to celebrate International Noise Awareness Day, which will be held tomorrow. She justified the new measure by explaining that there was a new trend, particularly in the Playa de Palma area, to organise day-time fiestas, which are noisy and draw complaints from neighbours. She said the measure would not be introduced during the tourist season but it was definitely on the agenda. The campaign for tomorrow consists of a letter to 250 establishments in Gomila, Joan Miró, Paseo Maritimo, La Lonja and Playa de Palma. In it, Mayor Joan Fageda asks for their collaboration for getting rid of noise pollution.
