With the Pound still maintaining its strength against the Peseta, Majorca is still one of the best value for money destinations. Thomas Cook, which held its annual conference in Majorca last month with over 2'000 star employees being invited on an a three-day “thank you” trip to the island, has collated a price comparison table for British tourists holidaying on a budget - both long and short haul. Short haul, the best value for money can be found in Majorca, the Costa del Sol, Cyprus and Turkey, the latter two proving extremely popular destination this summer in the UK. But Spain and the Spanish islands, in particular the Balearics, are still the most popular resorts and Thomas Cook's retail managing director Manny Fontenla-Novoa, who told the Bulletin last month that the British will always come to Majorca, said that the cost of living survey reveals why Spain and the islands are so popular in Britain. But Corfu is a destination Manny Fontenla-Novoa is a big fan of because he says that the island probably offers the best value for money in the Mediterranean and that hotel standards are high, as is the level of service.
