Ciutadella Council in Minorca has been presented with a project to build a new golf course in the area, but without an accompanying hotel. The 27-hole golf course project is currently being studied by the Son Xoriguer Residents Association. The proposed location for the 2.250 million peseta project is at the back of Son Xoriguer and the golf course has been welcomed by the local hotel sector. The German investment company behind the project claim that the course's location near to the sewage treatment plant at Es Rafal Amagat will mean that the greens will have a close and guaranteed supply of treated water for irrigation. The Residents Association has expressed its interest in the project, but believes that there may be legal hurdles ahead. What is more, the project will have to be approved by the Minorcan planning department. This morning, work will start on slaughtering a total of 756 cattle aged over 30 months in Minorca. Many Minorca farmers have taken advantage of a government initiative offering compensation to those who want to have their cattle aged over 30 months, which is the mad cow risk group, culled. All of the cattle are to be transported to the mainland where they will be slaughtered.
