The Balearic ministry of public works and transport will negotiate funding for accesses to the port of Palma with the central ministry of public works, under the agreement on roads. Minister Josep Antoni Ferrer said that plans for a tunnel from the Moll Vell (old quay) to the ring road and improvements to the Porto Pi intersection (if deemed viable) may be included in the investments for Palma's road network. The Palma city council plans to revamp the city's maritime façade and as a result of this the local public works ministry is collaborating in providing an in-depth study of the roads system, which will lead to a reappraisal of accesses to the ring road, reorganising traffic along the Paseo Maritimo and improving accesses to the port. The Port Authority, for its part, is reconverting the port installations and is building a 70'000 square metre platform in the Dique del Oeste which will be used for cargo vessels. According to the Port Authority chairman, Francesc Triay, once it is up and running at the end of the year, it will collapse traffic at the Porto Pi roundabout, especially at certain times of the morning when the ships are unloaded.
