The “big fish” hunted and killed in waters off Alcudia on Friday has been officially identified as a blue shark, refuting claims by the Mayor of Alcudia that it was a dolphin that was returning to the beach to die. It weighed 84 kilos and was sold yesterday at the Lonja, the fish exchange in Palma, for 42'000 pesetas. It was almost four metres long and is one of the biggest sharks captured in local waters to date. Blue sharks are found regularly in the Balearics. They are not man eaters, although they have been known to attack.
