Madrid yesterday released an extra 636 million pesetas to help the Balearics, Valencia and Cataluña cover the cost of repairing the damage caused by the November storms. Of the 636 million, the Balearics will get the largest share, 350 million and in total Madrid has set aside 4'161 million pesetas for the three storm hit regions. The Council of Majorca also announced yesterday that it has a war chest of 500 million pesetas to help the 51 municipalities affected by the storm. The figure is double the amount the Council initially planned to make available, but engineers have estimated the costs of the damage caused by last month's storm to be around 3'000 million pesetas. The areas worst hit were Alcúdia, Pollença, Capdepera, Santa Margalida and Sóller and each municipality will receive 40 million pesetas from the Council's coffers. Sources for the Council admitted that finding the extra funding has not been easy.
