A British driver, identified as Robert Alan, aged 48, was killed and four others injured in an accident at mid day on Sunday along the Palma to Andratx road. Guardia Civil Traffic police sources explained that a Daewoo Matrix crossed over the central reservation and into the path of an on-coming German-plated Ford Fiesta. Apparently the driver of the Fiesta could do nothing to avoid the Matrix. The British driver died at the scene while the driver of the Fiesta, 63-year-old Rose Marie DM, suffered serious injuries. Three other people were injured. Traffic police suspect that Robert Alan fell ill at the wheel, therefore losing control of the vehicle. A fourth person amazingly escaped unhurt. The crash caused long tail backs as the Guradia Civil and ambulance crews tried to help the victims, clear the road and get all those involved to hospitals in Palma as quickly as possible.
