Spanish airport authority AENA has ordered that baggage security control be tightened at Palma airport at a cost of 30 million euros. Two new systems are to be installed with the aim of making sure that every single item of luggage which goes on to a plane at Palma airport has been inspected. The installation of the two new fully-automatic security systems will take just over two years to complete, although the first phase will be ready within six months. The work will also involve a complete overhaul of bagagge control systems, for both arrival and departures, at the airport.
