Staff Reporter MORE than 100 “vehicles of the future” will be on show today in the parking area outside the Ocimax cinema and leisure complex in Palma (at the exit to Valldemossa).

Having already been on display at Son Moix as part of Palma City Council's fourth Sports Fair, the aerodynamically-designed cars will be at the Ocimax until Sunday under the banner “Tunning Show Motor Schock 2004”.

This new event aims to bring together once a year all car enthusiasts in the Balearics, and will include a wide range of activities related to two motoring specialties.

The first, the “tunning”, is a collection of more than 100 prototype vehicles of the future, equipped with high fidelity sound and souped up by mechanics.

A second attraction is a competition where enthusiasts can enjoy an exhibition of state-of-the-art “racing” vehicles and see their favourite drivers.
There will also be a “Trial Indoor” and “Quad” exhibition, led by powerful four-wheel motorbikes.
After this morning's gathering of prototypes at the Ocimax, all the vehicles taking part in the Fair will then be registered within their different categories.

Once the formalities are over, drivers and riders alike will take part in a friendly game of ten pin bowling at Ocimax's Diverland Bowling Alley.
The word tunning defines the practice of personalising a mass-produced car with the aim of improving its standing, differentiating it from the rest and converting it into a unique and exclusive vehicle.

Tunning has spread in popularity on a world-wide scale since the invention of the car, led in its field by Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain, the United States and Japan.

Spain is currently adding its name to the art with its own important contributions at many levels and in different styles.
Majorca has long had a love affair with the car, as can be witnessed by the number of vehicles on the roads.
So this new competition is expected to attract a large number of spectators and the organisers hope it will become an annual event.
