THE Balearic government will donate more than 2.2 million euros this year and next to several projects of the Vicente Ferrer Foundation in Anantapur, India.

They include the construction of a hospital, housing, a centre for AIDS sufferers and a school for the blind. Government funding will rise to six million euros in 2007, to cover further projects. After signing the agreement, Balearic leader Jaume Matas said that some 330'000 people in one of the poorest parts of India would benefit from the projects. He said that the government was “very proud and satisfied to help the people in India most in need.” Vicente Ferrer thanked the government for its involvement in the fight against poverty. His Foundation has been working in Anantapur for more than 50 years.
